EVALUATION QUESTION 4 SCRIPT

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? During the construction stage of my project, I used a variety of media technologies. For example: I used the software Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop to design and construct my film poster and magazine front cover. The advantages of using this was that I learned how to put layers on top of pictures and text and I also learned how to use the spotting tool to take away any mistakes on the pictures that I uploaded onto the software. However, the drawbacks were that sometimes I forgot how I did stuff to my pictures, sometimes the tools that I used loaded very slowly, and I had to wait a long time. In addition, I used premiere pro to put my trailer together. I uploaded footage of scenes that I had filmed for the trailer and selected what clips that I wanted to use in the trailer. Furthermore, I used some of the features of the software to edit my trailer to make it look ...

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK PRIMARY DATA

Image
After reviewing this footage, learnt that my trailer did not get the reaction that I was looking for. This is because the person that was looking at my trailer was mainly laughing instead of being scared and I think that this has shown me that I will need to make it a bit more authentic, like having a dark room with  creepy like cupboards, so as to make it look more creepy. I also learnt that that in the future, I need to get someone, who doesn't know some of the actors in our trailer to review it instead. This is because  I will me able to get back more practical feedback, in terms of, getting a more outside perspective on the trailer.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? SECONDARY DATA

According to the PearlandDean website, it says that the target audience for horror movies  is the focus group 15-24 year olds and this matched the target audience of my horror trailer because the target audience for my trailer was 15-19.  I rated my trailer a 15. On the BBFC  website, the age rating, according to them, for 15 matched my trailer and I think that it was the same as the 15 rating in the real world because there was no sexual activity shown in  the trailer and there was violence, but not that much i.e. a ghost holding a scythe covered in blood. Also, in my trailer there was no discrimination of any kind and no drugs were shown  (this was because the horror trailers that I looked at for my inspiration did not feature any kind of drug use), there were no references to nudity and there were strong threats shown i.e. violent ...

SOMETHING IN THE MIRROR TRAILER

WHAT I DID TODAY

Image
In this lesson we did some filming and we managed to do the Jessica scene and I did experiments with panning shots and I did a birds eye view shot of Elise, who is one of my characters in the trailer. I did this because I got inspiration from the first insidious film where they are all sitting around in a circle and the old lady is communicating with the evil spirits that are haunting the main family in the trailer. Here is a screenshot of this particular scene:

WHAT I DID IN TODAYS LESSON

Image
In today's lesson, I changed the pitching of one of my actors voices and decreased the volume because the scream that they did was very high pitched. Also, I downloaded some more sound effects for my trailer- some of them being from the Insidious movie (which is my trailer inspiration). I also used the constant grain effect on one of the sound effects to fade the sound out so that it was not stopping abruptly when another scene started. I downloaded some music from the IT movie, which is another good horror movie because it created a dark mood and it was going to be the soundtrack that I played throughout the trailer.

UPDATE ON THURSDAY LESSON

Image
This lesson we found some audio to put with our footage, which really went well with our clips.

UPDATE ON TODAYS LESSON 2

Image
This is where I am currently at in the trailer making process. I learnt how to crop a clip and put it into another one. We are also going to put some sound with these clips to see how it will work. How I did the crop: I copied the mirror and ann smirking clips and pasted them somewhere else on the film timeline. Then I put the ann smirking clip on top of the mirror clip. Then I cropped the footage of Ann smirking and put that inside the mirror frame.

UPDATE!

Last lesson we continued working on our movie trailer. we filmed some more clips and added them to Premier Pro. This lesson we are going to continue that work and I will use the doctors scene that I filmed before instead of filming another one.

FINISHED VERSION OF FILM MAGAZINE FRONT COVER

Image
I put this front cover together on Photoshop. I used similar ideas from other film magazine front covers like EMPIRE, Fangoria and RUE MORGE because theses magazines used different styles that I found very interesting. I kept with the colour scheme from my movie poster because it is my brand and it needs to link to the movie poster because if I used different colours instead, then this would, most likely confuse the readers and they wouldn't know if it was the same film or different film.
